WHICH CAME FIRST?  The chicken or the egg?  Simple die-cuts magically present transformation-- from seed to flower, tadpole to frog, caterpillar to butterfly.

The acclaimed author of  Black? White! Day? Night! and Lemons Are Not Red gives an entirely fresh and  memorable presentation to the concepts of transformation and creatiity.  Seed becomes flower, paint becomes picture, word becomes story--and the commonplace becomes extraordinary as children look through and turn the pages of this novel and winning book.

I've bought a heap of children's books lately (for age 0-2) and this one was a big hit. Everyone liked the vivid colors and paintings. The words are very simple, easy to read and memorize, so you can give it to a small person and read it over their shoulders. It's not a board book, so needs some care with toddlers, but it is very pretty.

It's no wonder that "First the Egg" is a multiple book award winner. The book is clever and well illustrated. My 5-year-old granddaughter liked it, especially since she was quickly able to "read" it on her own. Great book for kids 4 to 6 years old.First the Egg (Caldecott Honor Book and Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book (Awards))

First the Egg is an excellent children's book and one of my favorites as well. The text is simple, yet excellent. The illustrations are wonderful. It also keeps us wondering--first the egg or the chicken? I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book for my two year old grandson. He loves to have it read to him! The book would make a wonderful gift for any toddler. His four year old brother loves to share it with him. A must for every home library. Illustrations are bright and simple; wording has a nice pattern to it.

This book is so simple and fun. It is really beautiful and opens the door for learning about nature. I think it is a "must have" for any children's book shelf.
